U.S. Embassy London invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to develop and implement a 10-day reporting tour to the United States for up to five (5) program participants representing a UK-based journalism training organization. Subject to availability of funds, the Embassy expects to select one program implementer for a grant award from USD $40,000.00 and up to USD $60,000.00. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE The objective of this program is to expose a diverse group of student/trainee journalists to American issues and themes including climate change, post-COVID economic recovery, disinformation, U.S. journalism and press freedom, diversity in the United States, and American governmental systems. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION We seek a reporting tour that explores the policy priorities of the Biden Administration and provides participants with practical journalism skills. The reporting tour will shape participants’ understanding of American foreign policy, America’s role in the world, and contemporary issues in the United States. This program will take place over British university holidays in April 2022. The successful applying organization will be responsible for developing promotional and application materials and handling all program logistics, including collection of candidates’ applications, international and domestic travel, lodgings, and ground transportation costs, as well as a full agenda of engagements with relevant U.S. organizations. Participants should travel to cities representing the geographic and cultural diversity of the United States. Cities may include Washington, DC; New York City, New York; Atlanta, Georgia; and/or other suitable locations. Participants would meet with federal, state, and local officials, government agencies, civil society groups, and U.S.-based journalists. If participants will require visas, the budget should allow for any associated fees as well as the mandatory $180 Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee per participant, if applicable. Potential grantees should already be registered, or be prepared to register, as a Designated Sponsor Organization in order to facilitate a U.S. government-funded exchange program, if applicable.
